A very early pre-release (alpha) of OP4JS was released just days before Xmas. To be honest we were pleasantly surprised by the demand for the alpha. We now have close to 100 testers which have committed feature requests, bug reports and fixes. This is invaluable for our work and will shorten development time radically. So a huge thanks to everyone that is contributing (!)
Official name
OP4JS is just a codename or “nickname” for the in-house project. A while back we decided to dub the product with it’s official title: Smart Mobile Studio. While this website (www.op4js.com) will continue to be in use for a long time, we will sooner or later switch to our new domain. The documentation will also use Smart as the product name.
New participants
We don’t want to block people out of the alpha program, but we are reaching the stage where we have to stop taking on new users. There are still a few slots open but the alpha group is just about full.
Having said that, our beta program will begin as soon as we have ironed out bugs and implemented the improvements and features in the ticket system. If you missed the alpha then you are more than welcome to join our beta program.
Sincerely
The Smart Mobile Team
This is very exciting.
One issue with the two test applications released on Android Market (search for OP4JS in there) is that they request access to all content of the phone. Such small sample applications just do not need to access all user accounts!
It could be a good idea to publish the samples with proper rights, so that we may be able to test those on real phones.
Thanks for the positive feedback! To be honest i cant really say what can be the problem on Android – because the product was buildt for Apple products. But we dont do anything out of the ordinary in our code, so it may be a setting in phonegap that causes this behavior.
We have begun working on a “demo” region on this site (not yet visible) so more and more will surface in the comming weeks 🙂
Yes, that seems really interesting for Delphi/Pascal coders who don’t really want to deal with raw Javascript (no more than with asm).
When do you open the beta?
Or is still possible to get into the alpha?
(I cannot guarantee that I’ll do a lot with it, but I’m very curious to try it).
Send an e-mail to op4js@optimalesystemer.no, and I’ll include your e-mail address.
Will be happy to be a beta tester.
nice idea,
How are translating the tlistview component? with a calssical Grid?
best
Hi
Any chance of joining the beta. I am a Delphi programmer, been using it since the first alpha of Delphi 1 in 94/95. Using D7 and XE2 at the moment. Also code in C#.
Wouldn’t mind bashing up a few test applications for Android platforms. Just one question though: Delphi lives and dies on it’s libraries and it’s third party libraries. Is there anything for communications for instance, such as Thin client, TCP/IP, Twitter etc …
Thanks
Tony
Hello
I am keen to get access to the Beta and have sent two requests through your op4js@optimalesystemer.no address but haven’t received any replies ;-(
Let me know as soon as it is available. I believe it is a great concept and from the snippets I have seen, it looks like you guys have done a great job with the architecture.
Good luck and I’ll look forward to getting to play with it one day! My office whiteboard is already full of ideas…
Regards
Andrew
Hi Andrew
The alpha program is full right now, but we will begin the beta program later. Sorry that we havent gotten back to you but we were experiencing email problems earlier so we might not have gotten you message.
I’ll pass along your request.
